Lesley Wolff:
As an English Major, especially this year, I've taken courses focusing on not only the literary work of an author, but also the culture and society that author lived in. The reason for doing so was to find the reason and influences that lead them to their great work. And that's exactly what Ms. Wolff had done by studying the painting Convento de Santa Rosa by Carlos E. Gonzaler, but rather than study the artist she studied the entire country. In further detail. she studied the implication of food, mole, in the country. The way it was presented, prepared, and eaten were all important factors of the Mexican culture. In relation to this class, her experience and study of the painting, began in a single moment in time. She went for a meal and was accosted by the colors, space, and gaze of the painting in a restaurant. She realized that this one painting, it's space, size, and location, within the center of the center of Mexico was cosmically important to the culture and society of an entire country, all while eating a bowl mole. She later took a photo of the painting and applied it to a presentation, ready for viewing and critiquing by the world (well Hartwick at the moment). She took the culture of a foreign country put it in her computer and is now sharing it. That's the whole point the of virtual art world.
